The Making of a Textile Artist...

Astrid Headshot 2026.jpg

Hi! I am Astrid and I am a weaver, spinner, and garment designer. I make all things large and small with my handwoven fabrics - from boots to gowns. With every new idea, I try to create a learning experience out of the process. Whether it’s finer threads, a new structure, or an odd new component to throw into the mix, I want to explore that new idea and bring its challenges to life. I was recently asked what has been my most challenging project. Typically, it is my current project. I am always adding new and intricate elements to my work because I love trying new things.

Beginning in the fall of 2026, I will be studying Fashion Design at Escola de Tecnologias, Inovação e Criação in Lisbon, where I look forward to continuing to blend textile arts, garment construction, and creative experimentation into my work.

When I was 7 years old, my mom signed me up for a series of craft classes at a local store. Little did I know that all these years later I would become someone who can shear a sheep, spin balanced yarn, and weave my own fabric to create one-of-a-kind garments.

Fiber was the chrysalis that took me from a painfully shy girl who looked like a deer in headlights anytime someone approached me to a young woman who has found her voice and the confidence to be heard.
